F2 Savannah - Halestone Blixa

Testimonials

October, 2008

After doing a great deal of research on exotic cats, my husband and I were drawn to the zany personality traits and the long, lean, athletic physique of Savannah Cats.  Since this was our first foray into the world of exotics, we felt it was important to talk with various breeders.  Our criteria was a cattery run by people who are genuinely interested in the well being of the animals and demonstrated a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion about the breed.  Our journey eventually led us to the doorstep of Mike and Sandy Hale.

Halestone Savannahs cattery and breeding program is located in their Southern California home.  After a number of scheduled visits it was obvious we had found the right breeders: Cats and kittens from Halestone Savannahs are well socialized, happy and healthy thanks to Mike and Sandy’s unwavering love and devotion to each member.

Taking a page from the child reader “Fun with Dick and Jane” we named our dog Spot…um, I mean CAT.  The true meaning of the phrase “these cats are a breed unlike any other” is not understated.  Our Spotty Kitty has enriched our lives with hours of entertainment, joy, laughter, love and play.

I’m Spotty’s favorite play toy engaging in games of fetch, hide ‘n seek, tag and lying in wait. He actually plays a cat’s version of blind man’s bluff! He’s interactive, smart and easily trained: He comes when he’s called; sits on command; stays on command; responds to “no” most of the time.  (Hey, he’s still a cat.) His motion is fluid and always predatory.  He loves to run and jump, puff up and move sideways, trot and prance, talk and purr…he even does summersaults!

Adopting one of Mike and Sandy’s cats is like becoming a member of their family. They take great pride in their felines and great care in placement.  They enjoy keeping in contact with adoptive parents and are always available to lend an ear, offer sagely advice or just listen to Savannah Cat tales.

I really don't know where we could begin in talking about Halestone Cattery or the kitten they blessed us with. We had been wanting a Savannah for quite a while and mentioned to another breeder we wanted something unique. She told us, "You should contact Mike and Sandy at Halestone, they just had snow kittens!". I called them that very day and spoke to Mike. You could tell right away how much they loved their cats and would not let their kittens be placed in just 'any home'. Mike asked a lot of questions about us and our home and other pets. I know they had other people interested in the kittens as well and hoped they'd pick us to place the snow male kitten with. Mike and Sandy asked if we could come and meet with them and we visit the cattery and see the kittens and their mommy. The whole drive there we just kept praying they'd select us. When I met them they were really nice and so knowledgeable about Savannahs. We fell in love with the kittens on the spot. I held my breath until Sandy said we were his new parents. OK, I admit it, I cried! She said we could visit anytime we wanted but he couldn't come home until he was 13 weeks after all his shots and neuter. It was the longest few weeks of my life.

When Sandy brought him to our home, I thought he'd be all scared and shy, but he came out of that carrier and was so excited to explore. He wasn't shy at all. We had lots of toys for him and he started playing and was just the cutest thing ever. His first night with us, we had him locked in our bedroom and he slept on the bed with us. I was so happy.

I can't even describe what a joy he is to have in our home. He's everyone's favorite when they visit us, sometimes I think they come to see him instead of us. He gives everyone kisses when they come in and makes sure he's purred and rubbed on them so they know they're welcome.  He joins us in the shower most days and will cry if locked out of a room, or if we go outside and he's inside. He just wants to be with us all the time. He's so friendly and outgoing and we take him with us to stores and he's always such a good boy and friendly and not scared of new places or people.

Everyday we say our thanks that he's in our lives. I think he's keeping us younger with all his energy and exuberance to play. He is a gentle giant, much bigger than we expected him to be, even though Mike told us he'd be a big boy I guess until you have them you don't realize it. I would recommend Halestone to anyone who wanted a quality well loved, well socialized cat.
